Who is Dr Joe Saliba
Surgeon, Professor, Researcher and Entrepreneur
Dr. Joe Saliba is an ENT surgeon (ear, nose and throat) with a subspecialty in neuro-otology. He has advanced expertise in ear and skull base disorders, from hearing loss and vertigo to vestibular schwannomas and cochlear implants. He practices at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at Université de Montréal. In addition to training medical students and ENT residents, he is Director of the Temporal Bone Dissection Laboratory, where he teaches ear surgery using cadaveric simulation.
Dr. Saliba graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, where he received the prestigious Holmes Gold Medal, awarded to the student with the highest cumulative average in the Faculty. He then completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at McGill, earning several awards and joining the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He also completed a Master of Science at McGill in partnership with Stanford University in California, focusing on musical perception in patients with cochlear implants. Dr. Saliba went on to complete a two‑year post‑doctoral fellowship in Neuro-otology and Skull Base Surgery at the University of California, San Diego.
He joined Université de Montréal and the CHUM otolaryngology team as a surgeon and professor in 2019. Since then, he has authored dozens of scientific publications and has been invited as an expert speaker at numerous panels, congresses, and conferences. His strong commitment to teaching is reflected in several prestigious awards, including “Professeur émérite du CHUM” in 2023, as well as “Maître pédagogue” and “Meilleur cours magistral” from the ENT Division at Université de Montréal in 2024–2025.
Dr. Saliba joined the ODYO team as Medical Director in 2022 because he truly believes in our mission: making hearing care more accessible. In this role, he helps develop the use of technology and mobile services to improve access to hearing assessments, hearing protection, and amplification solutions. He is also committed to making ear science easy to understand and accessible, not only for his patients, but for anyone living with a hearing or balance disorder.
